Job Description
Div VP, Public Relations, West Coast Under the direction of the SVP Corporate Communications and Investor Relations, with a dotted-line to Entertainment and Licensing Group executives, this position is responsible for all publicity, promotions and public relations associated with the television, DVD, radio, and location-based entertainment (LBE) operations of the company. In addition, this position is involved in the development of communications strategies for all cross-divisional activities of the company and is expected to assist in supporting the West Coast PR/Press activities, particularly as they relate to the Entertainment and Licensing Groups. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Develop long-range strategic communication plans for the TV, DVD, radio, LBE businesses, and for the Playboy brand generally. Based on agreed upon strategies, formulate short-term (annual) plans for press relations, promotion and publicity. 2. Oversee communications with the news media, consumer, and trade press and business groups interested in Playboy’s West Coast businesses. 3. Through media relations, speaking engagements, and promotional events, position the company and its appropriate senior executives as leaders within their respected industries. 4. Develop promotions and special events aimed at increasing awareness and appeal of the Playboy brand and the company’s various products/services. 5. Oversee and/or implement all planned PR/Press activities within assigned areas of responsibility. Develop edit, revise and rewrite strong written communications including press releases, speeches, white papers, and other documents to ensure favorable communications messages for the Company. 6. As part of the strategic planning process, conceive and develop opportunities for issues-oriented coverage that would be beneficial for the Company. 7. Act as senior spokesperson for the Company and its businesses to the media, when required or appropriate. 8. Find and oversee appropriate outside consultants, including public relations and public affairs agencies. 9. Develop and manage all administrative aspects of position, including budget, employee management, and coordination with other businesses and departments in the Company. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None PERSON SPECIFICATIONS: Six to eight years progressively responsible experience developing communications strategy, dealing with the news media and supervising a communication staff, with experience in the Entertainment industry preferred. Experience in Location Based Entertainment helpful. College degree with journalism or communications concentration. Strong writing skills and contacts among West Coast media, essential. Must have excellent organizational skills with the ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks and PR initiatives at the same time. Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience in special events and working with the press a must. Ability to work well with numerous people, including celebrities and senior executives. Working knowledge of Macintosh and/or PC essential.
