Were growing, were opening new stores, and we are hiring. Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to join our Merchandising team at our HQ in Kent, WA as a Divisional Merchandising Manager. We are offering several new roles supporting the following divisions. Camp/Climb: As a DMM in the Camp/Climb division you will assume a key leadership role and drive growth in these core REI hardgoods categories. You will be responsible for setting and executing key strategies for Climbing, Backpacking and Camping while working with the industry to bring innovation to our members in a relevant and compelling way. Our diverse vendor base includes top vendors from the Outdoor industry, as well as large Private Label business. Travel/Outdoor Essentials: This role provides an exciting opportunity to drive renewed growth in the Travel categories, as well as continuing the fast paced growth of Outdoor Essentials categories through product innovation in electronics, knives/tools, and optics. Included in this mix you will support REI customer activities with the lifestyle, food and book categories. A broad reach of vendors in multiple industries along with some Private Label business provides a diverse perspective of the REI business. Women’s/Kids: Your focus in this role will be to align our teams as they explore the newest in technology for our Outerwear, Sportswear and Fitness styles. Our robust private label programs offer the experience to be instrumental in furthering our brand. Our vendor base includes all the top vendors from our industry bringing technical innovation to our active consumer. Men’s /Outlet: Your focus in this role will be to align our teams as they explore the newest in technology for our Outerwear, Sportswear and Fitness styles. Our extensive branded offerings provide a collaborative opportunity with our design and development partners. This position is also responsible for shaping strategy and driving business for our Outlet division. Footwear /Accessories: Our Footwear business offers someone a unique opportunity to join the teams as they invest in innovation and support a multitude of outdoor activities with their robust assortments. Footwear has a new energy and is positioned for growth in the years ahead and maintains a strong position in our industry. These high volume departments represent footwear and accessories for all members of an active family. Cycle/Multisport: In this role, you will drive the continued accelerated growth of our Cycling specialty shop. You will be furthering REI’s expertise in the cycle business by leading cross divisional projects focused on enhancing our operational efficiency and customer facing services, as well as growing our representation and partnership within the Cycling industry. Our diverse vendor base includes top vendors from the Cycle industry, as well as large Private Label business. Snowsports/Watersports: This role provides an opportunity for an individual to shape the direction of two dynamic seasonal businesses. REI is uniquely positioned as a national retailer of Ski and Snowboards, with a specialty shop focus. Industry partnerships and customer insights will be accelerators for growth in this category. The watersports category includes our kayak, canoe, and rapidly growing stand up paddle products. This is a highly regional business that requires thoughtful business planning and strategic expansion. Responsibilities and Deliverables This job contributes to REI’s success by leading a team of merchants in achieving annual sales, gross margin, inventory and customer service goals. Develops specialty shop business plans that support REI’s corporate priorities, drive financial performance, focus on the customer and guide assortment direction. Builds and maintains excellent relationships with our strategic vendors, in order to achieve mutual goals of sales, profitability, and brand positioning. Collaborates with Product Managers and cross divisional partners to ensure cohesive customer facing presentation of products and stories within product development, marketing, direct mail, visual merchandising, and retail. Qualifications: 5+ years of Merchandising management experience including general management, assortment planning, financial planning, inventory management, and product development, with 3+ years managing multi-million dollar merchandising plans for a company with sales above $500MM/year Insight and experience in planning and executing annual merchandising strategies and business plans across national and geographic markets Knowledge of retail, manufacturing, and distribution processes with experience in multi-channel retailing Knowledge of business principles from multiple disciplines and ability to apply these principles in driving change/outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities Understanding of the REI Brand and the outdoor specialty retail business, preferred Bachelors degree in Business, Marketing, Fashion Merchandising, or related subject, Preferred Proven negotiation experience and relationship building skills Ability to build capacity of individuals and teams through effective employee development, involvement, communication, and supervision efforts. Ability to create a strong, mutually supportive work spirit and culture where people can do their best. Proven ability to establish trust and inspires others. Experience making effective organization and people decisions in a manner consistent with REI's values and ethics. Ability to deliver on commitments and hold others to same. Ability to champion the organization and advocate solutions in the overall Company's best interest. Experience using business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgment in the solution of problems or the pursuit of business opportunities. Ability to consolidate information from various sources including feedback from others to reach sound decisions. Proven ability to consider the ultimate impact of decisions and actions on internal and external customers. Experience fostering change in company direction. Ability to effectively plan and execute changes.
