Job Description
TITLE: Director, Inventory Planning CLASSIFICATION: Full-time, exempt REPORTS TO: VP, Planning COMPANY OVERVIEW: The first Sur La Table store opened in Seattle's Pike Place Market in 1972 selling hard-to-find kitchenware imported from France. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Director, Planning is responsible for leading the planning and allocation function in order to maximize sales and margin for all product categories through strategic inventory management. This includes hiring, training and ongoing development of the team. This position reports to the VP, Planning and will work cross functionally in order to respond to current business trends and plan for future business directions. RESPONSIBILITIES: (including but not limited to) Direct the strategic planning, budgeting and implementation of all programs within the Merchandising department and act as a role model providing leadership within the planning and allocation functions. Proactively identify issues and opportunities in the function, and propose long-term, strategic solutions Prepare reports on planning activities and make recommendations for improvements and modifications Keep VP of Planning informed using established productivity measures Partner with Director (s), of Merchandising to develop and implement overarching merchandise and sales driving strategies. Ensure continuity amongst strategy and execution across entire product division Participate in budget preparation and administration, monitor and control product inventory flows and margin delivery. Establish inventory guidelines in coordination with Merchandise group Oversee the management of inventory investments to maximize productivity and in-store fulfillment including initial buys, liquidation tactics, reorders and allocation strategies Analyze business trends using qualitative and quantitative data and recommend appropriate action to drive financial results. Develop inventory flow and allocation strategies for the function that support long-term replenishment and seasonal assortment needs. Handle sensitive personnel matters in a timely and appropriate manner. Understand applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations including recent changes and assess their impact to Sur La Table. Work with key interfaces in the supply chain and stores to identify and act on opportunities. Communicate complex information efficiently and effectively both orally and in writing. Prioritize and organize work in order to meet deadlines. Develop vendor plans in partnership with Merchandising, for all product categories to meet or exceed financial goals including sales, margin and inventory turn. REQUIREMENTS: (including but not limited to) 5 + years’ experience in a retail/merchandise driven environment 2+ years’ experience with data analysis and problem solving Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management or equivalent work experience Experience with international production processes Advanced Skills with MS Excel Proficiency with MS Office Suite (MS outlook, MS Word) Able to travel internationally and domestically
