Job Description Senior Designer - Creative Services

One of FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies To Work For in America,” Recreational Equipment Inc. (REI), is seeking a Senior Designer to contribute creative and leadership talents to the Retail Marketing Team. As the Senior Designer, you’ll work with the Retail Art Director to manage creative projects and orchestrate the design and execution of marketing materials from job inception through pre-press proofing. This position will showcase your design skills and your understanding of the store environment, as well your ability to provide constructive support and mentorship to members of your team.
As a key player on the In-Store Marketing Team, you’ll help manage the design development of seasonal in-store campaigns and marketing collateral, from wayfinding and window displays to cash-wrap POP and technical product signage. Whatever the task at hand, you’ll consistently take initiative and think outside the box. You will be challenged to deliver fresh design solutions—all the while working in alignment with REI’s creative standards and the strategic direction provided by the creative briefs.
Working Relationships:
Reports directly to, and works closely with, the Retail Art Director. Other internal collaborations include marketing managers, marketing creative teams, photo studio, marketing operations, merchandising, online marketing and retail visual merchandising.
Qualifications/Skills:
- 6+ years experience in graphic design and retail environments required.
- Strong conceptual vision, with proven ability to develop compelling concepts in a team environment.
- Ability to create current and effective communications through all avenues of print execution—multi-page formats, packaging, signage and large in-store graphics.
- Experience providing photo art direction and selecting photographs for projects.
- Knowledge and understanding of color proofing for pre-press.
- Demonstrated time- and project-management skills, with proven ability to manage
multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Superior follow-through skills and attention to detail.
- Willingness to work flexible schedules to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced retail environment.
- Proficiency in In-Design, PhotoShop and Freehand/Illustrator.
- Knowledge and understanding of the outdoor customer and what motivates them to buy preferred.
