Job Description
These are exciting times for REI! Currently we have a great opportunity for an experienced, top-notch Product Developer for our REI brand apparel category. Join our team and make your mark by developing specifications, reviewing samples and working with our manufacturers to translate designs from concepts into innovative, high-quality REI brand apparel. RESPONSIBILITIES: - Review new styles with Designers to understand vision, concept, silhouette, etc. - Translate design concepts into specification packages. - Prepare accurate specifications that include: design illustrations, colorway grid, label and packaging, technical details with measurements, bill of materials, construction details, and size spec and grade. - Prepare and lead fit sessions with Design partners so that styles represent REI fit and quality standards as well as Designer’s vision. - Fit and evaluate samples on live models and communicate changes to internal and external parties. - Provide technical direction on corrective actions needed using clear written descriptions, photos, sketches or patterns as necessary from 1st prototype through production. - Issue Final Graded Spec to vendor upon fit and production approval. QUALIFICATIONS: - 5+ years experience in Product specification development, pattern making, grading, and manufacturing. - Experience in technical sketching of Apparel. - Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Design or Patternmaking or related field, preferred. - Advanced knowledge of Windows applications to include Illustrator, Word and Excel. - Ability to work independently organizing and prioritizing daily workload in order to meet deadlines. - Ability to successfully adjust to rapid change. - Strong verbal and written communication skills. - Ability to exercise sound judgment and display initiative and innovation. - Provide technical recommendations to Design staff in order to create consistency of fit and construction. - Experience in leading fit sessions and evaluating apparel fit. - Must be detail oriented with excellent organization skills.
